Miami 2021 Challenges:

Miami 2021 Solutions:

I challenge you to become environmentally literate and increase community awareness and action in reducing a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

Leisha John

Agents of Change

We will foster climate literacy and spark civic action in our community by hosting cross-generational youth-led conversations on climate change and mending our legislation to reduce our community’s carbon footprint. Methods included hosting a podcast and launching composting/Meatless Monday initiatives to curb emissions generated by food waste and meat production.

Project Planet

By launching our program we will increase awareness about the emission of greenhouse gasses and ways to prevent them by 30% within students of our city by 2025. Methods included hosting beach clean-up events and educational seminars about what average Miamians can do to bring down carbon emissions.

Let It Grow

We aim to foster a constructive environment for the youth of our community to engage in high-level discussions and advocacy in favor of diminishing the negative effects of improper waste management on greenhouse gas emissions.

I challenge you to connect families to resources to help them achieve economic stability and break the cycle of poverty.

Helah Robinson

POP (Progressors Over Poverty)

P.O.P.'s solutions are to empower our community through love, connect those in need with resources, and to increase the financial literacy of students and the community. Methods included financial literacy education and signing students up for bank accounts with TD Bank.

CLIPS

Our program empowers students from disenfranchised backgrounds to reduce generational cycles of poverty by providing a network of accomplished professionals from various backgrounds to create socio-economic change, job opportunities, and career-building programs for students from inner-city high schools.

FAID

By creating and launching an organization, we will work to improve financial literacy and alleviate poverty for individuals in need. Through the development of a survey, a website, an after-school program, and food/clothing drives, we hope to receive positive feedback about our resources through a post-survey by April 2021.

I challenge you to design a campaign that fosters empathy and creates an inclusive community where all immigrants regardless of their documentation status, feel a sense of belonging.

Gaby Pacheco

Doral DESTINY Project

We will develop community-based education program consisting of a website, social media platforms, and a resource Hub at Reagan Doral senior that will foster inclusivity among the Immigrant community by providing resources to help them understand and navigate the educational, financial, and legal systems in the US. In the next eight weeks, we will assist 50-100 recent immigrants through this program.

Monarch Co-OP

It is our goal: To create a multicultural club that will improve student/parent engagement by 25 percent among underserved and underrepresented 9th - 12th-grade students and parents surveyed at North Miami Senior High School by June 1, 2021.

I challenge you to create an innovative solution that bridges the disconnect between institutions and support services to improve the mental health of our youth.

Solome Tibebu

Soaring Mentalities

We will help raise awareness and reduce the stigma around youth mental health within school communities and create open dialogue between students and teachers. This will be achieved by creating a program with a corresponding social media platform that bridges the gap between students knowledge of resources and appropriate support services.

PURPLE Youth

We will develop community-based education program consisting of a website, social media platforms, and a resource Hub at Reagan Doral senior that will foster inclusivity among the Immigrant community by providing resources to help them understand and navigate the educational, financial, and legal systems in the US. In the next eight weeks, we will assist 50-100 recent immigrants through this program.

Safe Haven

We will utilize different platforms and outreach programs to inform and train people regarding the seriousness of mental health and connect individuals who need help to mental health professionals.

Hawks Haven

By launching a widely accessible website, we will improve mental health by 25% among all users of our website by early April.

Miami State of Mind

Miami State of Mind creates real conversation about mental health to empower youth, as well as change the culture of mental health conditions to more positive and loving ones by creating modern, interpersonal connections, through virtual platforms. Created a podcast as well as a virtual forum in Discord.

I challenge you to develop actionable solutions to combat gun violence in your community by creating a program that encourages safer schools and neighboorhoods.
