Carlotta Pope is a New York City educator, community leader, life-long learner, and agent of change. A dual Master’s of Science in Education graduate from SUNY Old Westbury, St. John’s University, and College of Saint Rose, she embodies the mantra, “Brooklyn, we go hard!” While recognized as a warrior in education, she also serves as a social advocate grounded in the three pillars of ACE: Advocacy, Capacity Building, and Exploration. Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education Policy and Youth Development, Pope focuses on developing skills to continue empowering students’ authentic learning experiences while still finding ways to combat systemic oppression within the education system.
With more than a decade of experience, Pope strives to uplift her students through the practice of culturally sustainable responsive pedagogy, utilizing the identities and passions of her students to enhance literacy and life-long skills. Known to some as “The Radical Teacher,” she advocates for the underrepresented with her teaching philosophy of “meeting students where they are in order to build a capacity for every scholar to be able to utilize their authentic voice.”
