
Amanda Brezzell is the visionary and creative director of Fennigan’s Farms Sustainable Design and Development, a Detroit-based initiative advancing community resilience through sustainable agriculture and Afro-ecological green space design. A native Detroiter, Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, and African American Studies from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Science in Biohazardous Threat Agents and Emerging Infectious Diseases with a focus on Agricultural Defense from Georgetown University.
Amanda’s professional background spans climate science, community rebuilding and resilience, sustainable agriculture, and environmental justice. While at Georgetown University, they gained experience in community-centered design by mapping resilience systems in partnership with the Department of Defense and Verizon Wireless. For more than a decade, Amanda has engaged in policy initiatives at both grassroots and national levels, advocating for urban farmers and pathways to community food sovereignty.
Grounded in both formal training and lived experience as a Detroiter, Amanda founded Fennigan’s Farms to cultivate resilient, self-sustaining communities and has sustained the space as a hub for care, innovation, and ecological stewardship in Detroit. Their work centers on healing land, people, and systems through intentional, community-driven design.
