Shawn L. Jackson is the chief of leadership and learning for Chicago Public Schools. Inspired by his mantra “moving students beyond the immediate,” Jackson has dedicated much of his career to the idea that students should be afforded the opportunity to aspire to something that moves beyond the constraints of their current conditions. To support his philosophy, Jackson spearheaded the writing of a multimillion-dollar technology grant awarded to five of Chicago’s public schools. Jackson is also credited with the creation of Spencer’s Parent University and The Cornerstone: Community Technology Center, entities designed to engage parents and community in the process of learning and to provide them extended opportunities to be exposed to benefits of technology. Jackson holds holds a Ph.D. in administration and supervision from Loyola University and is part of the inaugural class of principals eligible for the National Board Certification for Educational Leaders.
