Ruschelle Hamilton is chair of the Breathitt County Board of Education in Jackson, KY, and an advocate for the youth of eastern Kentucky. As board chair since 2013, she has led Breathitt County School District out of state management and back to self governance; it now meets all goals set by the district’s strategic plan. Hamilton is also a school board trainer (cadre member) for the Kentucky School Board Association. She is sought after for her expertise in school governance, including ethics, forming high-functioning leadership teams, evaluations, and transformative education. Prior to becoming a school board member in 2012, Hamilton was a classroom teacher and supervisor. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University and a master’s from Georgetown College, both in education. A returning native of Breathitt County, she also volunteers for several organizations in and out of her district.
