Colette Pichon Battle is a generational native of Bayou Liberty, Louisiana, and Partner of Vision & Initiatives at Taproot Earth, a global climate justice organization working for a world where all people can live, rest and thrive in the places they love. Previously, she founded the Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy, leading the development of programming around equitable climate disaster recovery, global migration, community economic development, and energy democracy for more than 17 years. Battle is the recipient of the William O. Douglas Award, for outstanding use of the legal/judicial process to achieve environmental goals, and the Rachel’s Network Catalyst Award for environmental leadership as a woman of color. She was selected as an Obama Fellow for her work with Black and Native communities. Her TED Talk on climate migration ranks in the top 10 TED Talks of 2020.
