Partner Cities

  • Chicago 2016

After a decade teaching and working as a children’s librarian, Linda Stone spent close to 20 years in high tech, first at Apple, then at Microsoft.  At Apple, she did pioneering work in multimedia, then worked for CEO John Sculley. At Microsoft, she did pioneering work in online social life, then worked for CEO Steve Ballmer. Stone’s current research focuses on the psychophysiology of our relationship with technology and coined the phrases: continuous partial attention, email apnea, and essential self technology. She serves on the Advisory Council for the MIT Media Lab and the TED BrainTrust.
