Alberto Carvalho has served as superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), the country’s fourth-largest school system, since September 2008. He is an expert on education transformation, finance, and leadership development. During his tenure, M-DCPS has become one of the highest-performing urban school systems in the country, having been named the 2014 College Board Advanced Placement Equity and Excellence District of the Year and earning the 2012 Broad Prize for Urban Education. Carvalho’s honors include 2019 National Association for Bilingual Education Superintendent of the Year, 2018 National Urban Superintendent of the Year, the 2016 Harold W. McGraw Prize in Education, 2014 National Superintendent of the Year, and one of Scholastic Administrator’s Fantastic Five educators making a difference in America.
